Meeting Place: 2023-01-14 at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Location: Morris Island Conservation Area
How to find us: Information board at the parking lot
(!) New rule in effect. I will be checking registrants name and profile photo to ensure they can be traced. A proper profile includes a recognizable first name and a clearly identifiable photo (without the need of magnification).
Starting time is confirmed at 10 am.
The parking fee is $6/vehicle. Tickets are purchased at the pay machine.
The total distance covered is less than 6 km.
As mask wearing has become optional even at indoors, I will not enforce the policy of having to bring a mask and social distancing. I will also not require vaccination to be a per-requisite. Having said that, I will ask the group to honor each individual's choice to wear a mask and/or maintain social distancing during this walk.
One of my favourite trails in West Ottawa, this trail feels like a vacation(!) when I get there with peaceful river scenery and easy-to-walk trails. This event will cover the Causeway, Chats Falls & Island Loop.
We will begin with an introduction and welcome exercise, and then we will relax and enjoy our time in nature.
Notes:
1. No pets for this walk.
2. Facility is available at the trail head.
3. If photos of others are taken make sure that you acquired their permissions before posting them on this page.

8. Description
The Morris Island Conservation area is home to a diverse group of wildlife. Located near the community of Fitzroy Harbour, this 47-hectare site features forested woodlands and wetlands where recreational activities such as hiking, picnicking, canoeing, fishing and natural interpretation are popular.
A variety of ecosystems within Morris Island provide a home for both water species and interior forest species. The wildlife in the area includes many common species such as chipmunks, raccoons, beavers, white tailed-deer, porcupines, frogs, garter snakes, and water snakes. Less common species include smooth green snakes, the threatened Blanding’s turtle, and the red-shouldered hawk, a national and provincial species of special concern.
