This is a two part trip. In the morning, we will be visiting the Bonnechere Cave. After the tour, we will visit the nearby Fourth Chute and have lunch at the Granary Schnitzel House Restaurant at Eganville (57 Bonnechere St W). This will conclude the first part of the trip.
After lunch, we will head to Renfrew and visit the MacDougal Mill Museum and the nearby Renfrew Swinging Bridge. This will conclude the tour.

Bonnechere Caves:
During your tour, you’ll be able to spot fossilized coral, ancient sea creatures — including an octopus — gastropods, cephalopods, crinoid rings and brachiopods, and more in the walls of the caves. If you come in late September, you may also observe early hibernating bats.
Because the underground is always 10 C we recommend that you bring a light sweater or jacket. Low heeled shoes are the best or in other words any footwear that you would use to go on a hike. We do have electric lights in the cave, but bring along a flashlight so that you can get an extra close look at the walls. Everywhere in the walls you will find scalloping patterns and fossils.

McDougal Mill Museum
The Main Floor is home to the Mercury including artifacts such as one of the first CPU models, print press machinery and classic typewriters. There is also The Handford Photography Studio and its vast collection of cameras and photo developing equipment. As well as Dr. Les Livingstone and his travels to the Arctic can be viewed in tandem with local Indigenous bead and craft work.
The Upstairs features fashion through the ages, including clothes from the Victorian era, and a wedding dress gallery. A vintage doll and toy collection along with other every-day household items can be seen on this floor, right beside our school and education display. This floor also houses a substantial decorative military display including the Cold War, and World War I and II.
The Basement calls to various heavy and large mill, farming, mining and logging equipment from the early 1900’s. Revolutionary industrial wares such as cast irons and ice boxes from Barnet Refrigeration Co. Along with vintage oven and cookware sets are stationed throughout this floor.

Renfrew Swinging Bridge
There are only three swinging bridges in Canada and one of them is right here in Ontario. The Renfrew Swinging Bridge dates all the back the the 1800s and is still standing (and swinging) today.
