Meeting Place: 2024-06-08 at 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Location: Chapman Mills Parking Lot - 253 Winding Way · Nepean, ON
How to find us: Meet at the parking lot
Update (2024-05-26):
I did a walk there today, and these are the things you should know:
1. Although I tried to minimize our exposure to traffic, there are two areas I cannot mitigate. The first one is the section on River Road between Solarium Ave and Nicolls Island Road (750 m, 10 min). We will be walking on the shoulder of the road without a pedestrian walkway. The second one is the section on Prince of Wales Drive where it crosses the Jock River (~100m, 2 min). We will be walking on the shoulder of the bridge without a pedestrian walkway. We will exercise caution and common sense, but participants need to accept the risk of walking on these two areas.
2. The Beryl Gaffney park is prone to mosquitoes. Please bring bug spray. I also spotted poison ivy within the park. So be careful if you decide to walk off the designated path.
3. There are approximately 20 parking spots available, plus street parking. It will be helpful if a few of us can carpool there.
4. The walk will be between 2.5 - 3 hr. We will have water and snack breaks, so bring something light to keep your stamina up.
The distance is approximately 10.5 km on bridge and trails.
We will begin from the Chapman Mills Conservation Area, get on the Vimy Memorial bridge, walk south down to the Beryl Gaffney Park, before return north to the starting spot.
The walking route is listed in the link below. Open it within the rungo app. It will give you turn by turn instructions.
