Distance and Terrain: Bog 1.5 km + (Trail 53) 7.2 km round trip
(!) New rule in effect. I will be checking registrants name and profile photo to ensure they can be traced. A proper profile includes a recognizable first name and a clearly identifiable photo (without the need of magnification).
This trail is very beginner friendly (in fact many of you will think it's too easy), and a good part of this trail is broadwalk. It will be a good warm up for the hikes to come.
Please arrive a few minutes early. If you are a few minutes late please leave a comment early. The cell phone reception is well at the site so I will be checking my phone.
We will begin with an introduction and welcome exercise, and then we will relax and enjoy our time in nature.
Note:
1. Free parking.
2. No pets for this walk.
3. Facility is available at the trail head.
4. I will ask members not wish to be included in photos to identify themselves at the beginning of the hike. Please be mindful of their wish as pictures are taken.
5. Trip Report: bit.ly/2ORqpQf
6. Difficulty - 2 if walking on Ridge Road. The boardwalk is 1.
7. Walking Route: P21 to P22, go around the bog and then return to P21.
8. Description
The Mer Bleue trail (Trail 53) is a 1.5 km loop trail that can be extended to 8.5 km walk. If you haven’t been, trust me – go! The whole trail can be done in under an hour (1.5 km) or two (8.5 km) – if you don’t stop to take photos along the way, which you probably will. The place is beautiful. The trail is mostly one large boardwalk through a bog, which is a mix of cattail marshes and what closely resembles a bog typical of the Northern Boreal region. At the end of the boardwalk is a section of forest, followed by an even smaller section of field. A recommendation: plan your visit to align with the sunset. I assure you, there is nothing more beautiful.
